Background
In 2023, world leaders agreed to convene a high-level meeting on UHC in 2027 to assess progress toward the implementation of the 2023 Political Declaration on UHC and identify gaps and solutions to achieve UHC by 2030. The countdown to the 2027 UN High-Level Meeting on UHC marks a turning point to hold leaders accountable, accelerate UHC action, and lay the foundations for continued prioritization of UHC in the post-2030 development agenda. As preparations begin toward the next Political Declaration on UHC, strengthened advocacy, social participation, and accountability will be essential to ensure that health for all and ending health inequalities take center stage of the political agenda by 2030 and beyond.
The 2025 Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Day campaign marked the second year of a global advocacy push on financial protection. Building on the 2024 call for government responsibility to deliver health for all, the campaign – under the theme “Unaffordable health costs? We are sick of it!” – amplified the lived experiences of people facing financial hardship due to health costs. It mobilized civil society, youth, and partners worldwide to raise their voices and demand action, resulting in increased engagement, record media reach, and growing political commitments across regions. Central to this momentum were UHC Day Champions – individuals and organizations translating advocacy into tangible action – demonstrating how social participation and community leadership can influence policy dialogue and resource allocation.
Sustaining this momentum in the lead up to the 2027 HLM requires evidence to drive sound advocacy and enable people-centered policy action. The ACT for UHC report and data dashboard, released on UHC Day 2025, provides information to track how countries are translating the commitments of the 2023 Political Declaration into action across priority areas. By making data accessible and actionable, ACT for UHC enables advocates, policymakers, and partners to connect grassroots advocacy with national and global accountability processes, ensuring that political commitments are measured, discussed, and acted upon.
Recognizing 2026 as a pivotal year on the road to the 2027 High-Level Meeting, this webinar creates a space to reflect on the achievements of the 2025 UHC Day campaign, celebrate champion-led action, and build capacity among advocates to use ACT for UHC tools to inform dialogue, strengthen accountability, and sustain collective advocacy.
