Dr Mengistu is the Senior Country Director for Pathfinder International in Ethiopia and a cluster lead for Institutional partnership for the Africa region. Previously, he served as Acting Country Representative and Deputy Country Representative at Pathfinder.

 

He has also served as an expert in global discussions for PHC, FP/HIV integration, community-based FP, LARC, community health workers, cervical cancer prevention, and adolescent issues. As Chief of Party for the TRANSFORM/PHC, a USAID flagship program for Ending Preventable Childhood and Maternal Deaths (EPCMD), he worked to strengthen Ethiopia’s health system through primary health care activities. In six years (2017-2022), the program reached 57 million people with health information and services and helped people access health care and other essential services during a conflict in the north of the country and the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

Dr Mengistu holds a Doctor of Medicine (MD) and a Master of Public/Community Health from Addis Ababa University.
